My path to creative expression was birthed on the streets of Los Angeles. As a skateboarding videographer, I captured the essence of the sport for brands including Nike, Volcom, and visionary Director Spike Jonze.
A cherished haven for my pro skater crew was the University of Southern California. The school boasted unique architectural features that attracted skateboarders from around the world, sparking a golden era of innovation in street skating—a period I had the privilege of documenting.
Just a few years later, I was accepted to USC as a student of the University’s School of Cinema-Television. There, my abilities as a director awakened, and I was propelled from skate videos into the realm of narrative storytelling. My career then progressed into live music documentation for John Legend, Rihanna and Tori Amos...and later to the world of New York advertising.
At TBWA\Chiat\Day, New York, I took the position of in-house Director/Producer, creating pitch videos that won multi-million dollar accounts. The success of these sales films opened doors to new opportunities, including travel to the inaugural Copenhagen Climate Summit to create a web series featuring the Nissan LEAF.
From there, I moved back to Los Angeles, and during a stroll at the Santa Monica promenade, discovered the Tesla store. The supercharger network had just been connected from Los Angeles to San Francisco. Floored and in awe of the technology, I was inspired to create a commercial, and filmed a family taking their first solar powered road trip.
The commercial I was inspired to direct, “Gallons of Light,” became an immediate brand Anthem for the budding EV manufacturer. My creation of “Gallons of Light” ignited a mission to tell stories for brands and people paving the way for a brighter future.
As I reflect on the 15 years that have passed since my skate video beginnings, innovation continues to weave through the tapestry of my work. From delving into cutting-edge brain science in "Human Limits" to exploring a teenager’s journey through the cosmos in National Geographic's "15 Year Old Mission to Mars", I remain captivated by the outer reaches of human potential.
I don’t seek out projects to direct. They find me. It is a dance, woven with my own unfolding journey as a human on planet earth.
